Makeover Monday | Office Inspiration

Hello everyone!
Happy Halloween Eve!
The only room left to cover upstairs is Erik's Office.
The overall design of his office will be up to him but I wanted to give you an idea of what he has shared with me and what we have agreed upon.
Right before we purchased our house we bought Erik a new desk.
He always had envisioned a black desk so a black desk we got.
Since he was going with black furniture I suggested gray walls.
Gray is Erik's favorite color and at the time gray walls had just started becoming popular.
He agreed.

When we bought our house one of the upstairs rooms just happened to be painted a darker gray.
It automatically became Erik's office.
Erik is a huge gamer.
He has several different gaming systems and the games and controllers for each.
I suggested tall bookcases to help display all of his treasures.

I think the dark walls and dark furniture are perfect for his man cave.
If there is one thing I have learned it is that Erik likes it dark when playing games.
The deep color scheme will help keep the room dark and cool.
What hobbies does your signifiant other enjoy?

Stranger Things Birthday Party

Hello everyone!
As you know I love to celebrate.
Over the years Erik has learned to be prepared when his birthday comes around.
Yesterday was his birthday and he had two requests.
One: That his party was Stranger Things themed.
Two: That he had a mint chocolate cake.
Here is what I came up with.

Decorations

To start the party off right I placed a print out of Will's missing person poster in our entry.

For the backdrop I HAD to do the alphabet wall and Christmas lights.
Instead of the entire alphabet I spelt out Happy Birthday.
I was originally going to get a brown patterned tablecloth and hand paint the letters onto it but came across this printable alphabet banner online for $7!
I decided to save myself some trouble and go that route instead.
I love this banner because you can choose to print it with or without Christmas lights.
I chose without and hung our own Christmas lights we use on our house each year.
I placed the banner and lights in front of a black tablecloth since everything is dark in the upside down.
In front of the background I set up a table with another black tablecloth.
On top of the table we have a box of Eggo's, Erik's present from Scout, his mint chocolate birthday cake, a lamp missing it's lampshade, and a Funko Pop Demogorgon guarding a bag of Erik's favorite truffles.
I love that you can use things from around the house for decoration.

In our family room I set up a fort in front of the TV.
Will has a fort in the forest behind his house and Eleven has a fort she hides in at Mike's house.
It seemed appropriate.

I used yellow paint and some cardboard to create two hand painted signs that read "Camp Byers" and "All Friends Welcome" to copy the signs outside of Will's forest fort.
I placed these at our fort's entrance.

Food
Since Erik and I were the only ones celebrating I made just a few snacks for us to enjoy.
Eggo's obviously!
Two of the sliders are already missing...

I tried to find mini Eggo's at the store but was unsuccessful.
I bought the regular sized Eggo's and used a small round cookie cutter to create smaller Eggo's for our sliders.
I stacked three on top of each other and placed a toothpick in the middle.
You can enjoy them plain or dip them in peanut butter, Nutella, chocolate whatever you desire!
I taped the empty Eggo box back up once I was finished and used it for decoration.
Our second snack was pudding.
Because their lunch lady be hoarding it!

I set packs out on a tray with some spoons.
We topped them with crumbled Oreo's to make it look eerie like the upside down and enjoyed!
If you are entertaining a large group a waffle bar would be an awesome option.
If you have a smaller group Eggo sliders are the way to go!
Every year I get Erik a bag of Lindt Lindor Truffles since they are his favorite.
I wanted to add in some red to the party to match the title and decided they would do.
But you have to get past the Demogorgon if you really want some...

Cake
I made a homemade chocolate cake with mint frosting per Erik's request.

I was originally going to put the Demogorgon on top of the cake but wasn't sure if Erik would want to keep it in it's package.
The cake didn't seem to fit in with our theme without the Demogorgon so I decided to turn it into a drip cake and added a chocolate ganache on top.
The chocolate drips down the side were the perfect touch.
It gave it an upside down feel.
I topped the cake with some of Erik's favorite candy,  mint candy to compliment the cake and red and silver candles.

Music
I had the Clash's Should I Stay or Should I Go playing when Erik got home.
Then I popped out and sprayed him with silly string.
The silly string is a traditions of ours.
I found a playlist on YouTube of all of the songs from season one and let it play while we opened presents and ate cake.
I have linked it above or you can create your own if you'd prefer.

Erik and I watched the last few episodes of the first season of Stranger Things in our fort while eating Eggo's last night.
I truly feel like there is no other way to watch the show now.
We will be binge watching the second season in there all weekend.
How will you be enjoying Season Two?

Caramel Apple Nachos

Hello everyone!
Happy Friday!
Can you believe that Halloween is in 11 days?!
We are trying to fit all of the Halloween things in.
Tonights agenda?
Caramel apples and a Halloween movie!
I love to enjoy caramel apples in the fall but they are hard to eat...
A big apple is hard to handle and after Erik actually broke his tooth on one last year I decided that we better try something else.
We gave caramel apple nachos a try and loved it!

You will need:
Your favorite apples
Melted caramel and any other sauces you would like
Toppings

Melt the caramel and any other sauces you desire. We used milk chocolate.
Slice apples.
Add sauces. I placed mine in squeeze bottles so that they were easier to control.
Add toppings. We used sliced Almonds, Reese's Pieces, Chocolate Chips, Mini M&M's, Mini Marshmallows and Smashed Halloween Oreo's. Get creative!
Enjoy!

They were so easy to make and even easier to eat.
I would definitely recommend these especially if you struggle eating caramel apples like I did.
What are your must have fall snacks?

Makeover Monday | Hall Bathroom Design Part 2

Hello everyone!
For today's Makeover Monday we will be going over the second and final design for our Hall Bathroom.
This concept design will be for the two walls to the left of our previous post.

Both of the walls will be painted light gray.
I chose a simple light gray and white striped shower curtain so that it wouldn't over power the room but would still add a pattern.
Both of the bathroom's in our house had just gotten new white subway tile in the shower before we moved in and I absolutely love it!
We will be replacing the shower head, shower curtain rod and towel rack to an oil rubbed bronze to match the rest of the bathroom's hardware.
Outside of the bathtub we have a light gray striped bath mat.
To add some more texture to the bathroom I chose white bath towels that have a subtle gray honey comb pattern and tassels.
Underneath the towel rack I decided to add in a wooden stool.
It adds a bit a warmth into the room and adds a little more storage space.
This room has such a simple color scheme and design I wanted to really play with patterns and texture to make it feel less plain.
Overall I like how the designed turned out.
Now we just need to get started!
What do you like to add into a room to a jazz it up a bit?

Cauldron Cake Pops

Hello everyone!
This year for our annual Worst Witch Party I volunteered to bring a treat.
I had seen Cauldron Cake Pops online and thought that they would be so festive.
A piece of advice... Do not make cake pops for the first time on the day of your event.
I always put myself in these situations and I highly suggest you save yourself the hassle.

You will need:
A Cake, baked in a 9X13 inch pan (I used a Devil's Food Cake box mix)
16 ounces of Buttercream Frosting (I used Chocolate Buttercream)
Lollipop sticks (I used paper straws instead)
Candy for decoration (I used bubble sprinkles, candy bones, candy eyeballs, and nerds)
Foam Block, to hold your cake pops while they dry

Once your cake has cooled crumble it with your fingers in a large bowl.
Add the frosting into the cake crumbs and mix until fully combined,
Roll the mixture into one and half inch balls and place on a baking sheet lined with wax paper.
Place the balls into the fridge and let them chill for a half hour.
Melt a small mixture of your chocolate melts in the microwave.
Remove the balls from the fridge.
Place one end of your lollipop sticks or straws into the melted chocolate and then stick half way through the cake ball.
Repeat on each cake ball and then place into the fridge for an additional half hour.
Melt the remaining chocolate in a bowl in the microwave.
Remove the cake balls from the fridge and dip straight down into the chocolate mixture.
Rotate until the cake pop is fully covered and let the excess chocolate drip off.
Immediately place the cake pop bake onto the baking sheet.
This will make the chocolate dry flat and create a brim for our cauldrons.
Let the chocolate harden.
While the chocolate is hardening dye your white frosting to your desired colors.
I did green, purple and pink.
This will match the color of the candy I will be placing on top for the witches brew.
You can also dye the frosting red and orange and add flames to the bottom of the cauldron.
I liked the look of a plain caldron.
Once the chocolate has hardened we can start to decorate.
If you want to add flames, do so first.
You can add them to the bottom of the cauldron while the cake pop is resting on the baking sheet.
Frost the top of the cauldron with your desired color of witches brew.
Dip the wet frosting into the matching candy.
Add candy bones and candy eyeballs for extra decoration.
Place the black frosting into a piping bag and draw circles on opposite sides of the cauldron for handles.
Place the cake pop into your foam black and let the frosting harden.
I would recommend poking holes into the foam block with a stick or straw before placing the cake pop in.
That way your aren't fighting the weight of the cake pop and shaking candy everywhere...
And you're done!

I placed my foam block in a plastic cauldron and added some green tissue paper for decoration.
They turned out so cute and were a hit at the party!
Cake pops are very time consuming.
I would recommend making the pops the day before and then decorating the day of your event.
Have you made cake pops before?
What tips or tricks do you have?

Makeover Monday | House Number

Hello everyone!
Happy Monday!
In my original porch design I showed you how we wanted to add our street address on our house by getting some satin nickel numbers and hanging them vertically.
I am proud to say we got that done this weekend!

We placed the number to the right of the our front door in between the frame and our porch light.
I think it turned out so cute!

So... confession time.
This is not the final product.
I didn't want our actual address online so I made up an address and taped the number up there.
The actual address was nailed on afterwards.

See the tape?
You do what you have to!
What house project are you currently working on?

Homemade Pumpkin Face Mask

Hello everyone!
Tis the season for pumpkin!
I have seen a few people posting about pumpkin face masks.
Instead of dropping some major cash I decided to make my own.

You will need:
1/2 a Cup of Pumpkin Puree
2 Tablespoons of Unsweetened Almond Milk
1 Teaspoon of Coconut Oil
2 Tablespoons of Raw Honey

Mix the ingredients together until smooth.
I like to melt my coconut oil in the microwave for a few seconds so the mask isn't clumpy.
Once the mixture is smooth, apply a thin layer to your face.
Leave on for ten to fifteen minutes.
Remove with warm water.
Pat face dry with towel.
Store any leftovers in an air tight container for up to two weeks.

This is a very simple recipe but it can do wonders for your skin.
Pumpkin is full of vitamins that remove dead skin cells which makes it great for dark spot removal.
Honey and coconut oil hydrate skin and have many anti bacterial properties that help prevent break outs.
If you are looking to add a bit more to your face mask her are a few suggestions.

Cinnamon: Cinnamon is also full of anti bacterial properties. Plus how good does a cinnamon pumpkin face mask sound? A word of caution it can irritate your skin. Try applying a water cinnamon mixture to your wrist and see if you have a negative reaction.

Coffee Grounds: Coffee Grounds have anti inflammatory properties that tighten the skin and make it smoother. It can also help reduce redness. Coffee is very course so be gentle when applying to your face.

Sugar: Sugar is a wonderful exfoliate that moisturizes and smooths skin. Like coffee it is course so be gentle when applying.

Brown Sugar: Brown sugar has the same powerful qualities of regular sugar but isn't as course. It's a great options for those with more sensitive skin.

I used the original recipe and loved how hydrating it felt.
My skin felt so smooth one it was removed.
I stored the leftovers in my fridge and can't wait to add in different items for the remainder of fall.
What is your favorite homemade face mask?

Makeover Monday | Hall Bathroom Design

Hello everyone.
This week's Makeover Monday is going to be on a Tuesday...
Have I mentioned that life has been crazy?
I had this design ready to post and didn't want to postpone.
So here it is.
Makeover Tuesday!

The hall bathroom is mainly used by our guests now.
I want it to feel clean and inviting.
I'm putting the gray paint we used in our living room and hallway to use again.
The hall bathroom is located close to both of them so I think it will flow well.
The vanity is a darker gray so it won't blend in against the light gray walls.
The counter top is plain white stone.
The hardware: faucet, towel bar, trash can, handles and toilet paper holder are an oil rubbed bronze that appear almost black.
Above the vanity we have a mirror with gray beading.
I love that the beading adds something so it's not just a plain mirror and ties it into the color scheme.
This bathroom is on the smaller side so I added an oil rubbed bronze shelf over the toilet for storage.
We have spare toilet paper, a canister to hold cotton balls, a glass candy jar which holds my bath bombs and a candle.
I like to keep things that guests might need accessible so they don't have to rummage through the vanity looking for something.
How do you store items in tight places?

Fall Simmering Potpourri

Hello everyone!
Happy October!
Is there a better way to start the month then filling your home with the smell of fall?
I don't think so...
I have wanted to try a simmering potpourri for awhile and finally had the time (and remembered) to try it out.

You will need:
1 orange peel
1 apple, cut
2 cinnamon sticks
1 tablespoon of cloves
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
1 tablespoon of almond extract
1 and 1/2 cups of water

Place all of the ingredients into a cooking pot and let simmer throughout the day, adding more water when needed.
So easy and a unique way to fill your entire house with the smell of fall.
The best part is that you can keep this going for up to three days.
Just store in your fridge overnight.
Add in water once again and you are good to go!
What is your favorite fall scent?
