DIY Poolside Bags

Hello everyone!
It is officially summer!
I am so excited to hit the pool this season.
So, I decided to make these cute color blocked pouches to store all of my goodies in during our many trips to the pool this year.

You will need:
Canvas Pouch
Tape
Paint
Paintbrush
Cardboard
Scissors
Yarn
Thread
Needle

Take your canvas pouch and tape off where you'd like your color block to begin.
I did mine towards the bottom of the pouch.
Paint below the tape in the color of your choice.
Let dry.
Apply another coat and repeat until you have your desired coverage.
I ended up doing three coats.
Once all layers are dry remove the tape.
You should have a nice clean line.

To create the tassels, take a piece of cardboard and cut to your desired length.
The length of the cardboard will be the length of the tassel.
Mine was 4 inches long.
Cut a small notch into the top of the cardboard.

Starting from the bottom, wrap your yarn around the piece of cardboard.
The more times you wrap, the thicker your tassel will be.
I wrapped mine 30 - 40 times around.

Once you have reached your desired thickness cut your yarn at the bottom of the cardboard.
Take a new piece of yarn a few inches long and insert it into the notch.
Wrap around all of the yarn and secure tightly into place.

Carefully slip the entire tassel off of the cardboard.
Cut along the bottom of the tassel through the "loops."

Trim the ends of the yarn to make them even if needed.

To create the pom poms, cut a piece of cardboard to your desired width.
The width of the cardboard will be the width of the pom poms.
I did three different sizes.
2 inches, 1 and a 1/2 inches and 1 inch.

Starting from the bottom, wrap your yarn around the cardboard.
The more times your wrap, the thicker the pom poms will be.
I wrapped mine 50 - 60 times around.

Once you have reached your desired thickness, cut your yarn at the bottom of the cardboard.
Take a new piece of yarn a few inches long and wrap around the back of the cardboard and all of the yarn.
Carefully remove all of the yarn from the cardboard.
Secure the yarn tightly around the pom pom.
It will look similar to a bow tie.

Cut along the bottom of both sides of the yarn through the "loops."

Trim the ends of the yarn to make them even, if needed.

Using thread and a needle, thread through the center of the pom poms and through the middle of the top loop of the tassels to create a key chain.
Secure the key chain tightly to the zipper of the canvas pouch with the thread.
I mixed and matched different sized pom poms, and tassels to create all different types of key chains.

These turned out so cute and were very easy to make.
They are the perfect size to hold all of the little things you take with you to the pool.
Sunscreen, sunglasses, your phone, etc.
The canvas is nice and thick so you know that your belongings will be safe and secure.

What are you looking forward to doing this summer?

All my love,
Autumn
